Art-a-porter by Dareen & Ruba

From the heritage of Saudi Iraqi cultures Dareen’s passion for fashion started at the early age of 5 when she used to borrow her aunt’s clothes to create her own creations. This was followed by fashion sketching for clothes, shoes and perfume, which she happily began doing at an age of 11. She designs passionately, with a deep cultural connection, coupled with a modern and feminine twist. Ruba attributes her love of fashion to her childhood passion for colours, crayons and from living in diverse cultures where she had the chance to experience memorable events as she lived between USA and Saudi. By the age of 16 was making her own signature girl’s accessories. It was indeed during their college years that Dareen & Ruba found each other and formed a bond, not only by friendship. Their major in “Art” gave them the fundamental and comprehensive foundation to become multifaceted designers. 2004 was the year that Ruba and Dareen graduated and started to follow their dream by making their first collection. At that time it was just considered as a hobby not knowing where this would take them. But people loved what they presented, their creativity and most importantly their uniqueness and that made them think about turning their hobby to a promising career and a dream come true. A masterpiece to be worn combining the western trends with their Middle Eastern heritage. Their objective is simply to present to the world diversity and uniqueness supported by various cultures giving each collection its distinctive touch.

Welcome

This blog has been created thanks to a revolutionary idea to give some of the most innovative but yet unknown designers a chance to show the world their producings. By changing western mainstream fashion in more authentic styles, influenced by many cultures, I want to create a surplus in identity finding and self-realization for everyone. The notion started after visiting the fashion metropolis of New York. I dreamed of leading a project involving fashion but at the same time making a social commitment. I wish to enable people from different sectors and from various parts of the globe to profit of my vision and ambition. That's why I want to give all of you the possibility to show your creativity and imagination to the world. I am thrilled to receive some pictures of your work that I can post on the blog. Just send them to sibylle.regli@ggaweb.ch
I need your help in achieving my longtime goal of encouraging people to wear clothes that reflect their origin and to be proud of it.
Yours, Sibylle
